You can read the Yamaha WaveRunner fault codes with a Marine Engine Diagnostic System MEDS or CandooPro which are special softwares designed for troubleshooting WaveRunners and other marine engines.

Yes that tool is on Yamaha dealer. Ensure the hose connector is properly connected to the engine flushing port. You just have to connect the computer to the engine with the diagnostic cable that comes with the software.

If it was I would have had to purchase a new remote from the dealer at around 130. Level the WaveRunner to the greatest extent possible whether on the ground or on its trailer. The L-Mode light was not on but perhaps the bulb could have burnt out.
