How does an absent father affect a daughter. Absence is also significantly a call for the potential of the positive to emerge. A preponderance of studies identify at least nine factors influencing a childs well-being when they do not live with their fatherfrequency of contact age and gender of the child the fathers. It can also affect everything in our livesperhaps most importantly our intimate relationships.

When a father is absent whether physically or emotionally from his daughters life especially during childhood it may seriously affect the daughters ability to form a strong bond with not only him but it may have a trickle down effect to all the other men who will come into her life. As with depression eating disorders and low self esteem the absence of a father can trap a daughter in a negative repetitive pattern she cant easily break out of and turn to drugs to self-medicate and help numb the pain. Fatherless daughter syndrome can manifest in several forms as girls pass through adolescence and become adults.

I at least knew my father. Dysfunctional behavior chronic depression and forming unhealthy relationships are common among them. I had to behave accordingly and not do anything that may be perceived as a nuisance to him to avoid being punished.

Words were murmured and that was the last time Ive seen him. While fatherless sons may turn their anger outward daughters with absent fathers are more apt to turn theirs inward. This can lead to depression shame and self-harm.

I contend it is this presence of absence that is most harmful. A positive father is a key figure in his daughters development. He rarely came to our apartment.

The quickened development into and through puberty of children raised with no father present through to many and varied social and physiological issues. The affects covered everything from physical differences ie. The absence of the father is harmful not only due to his absence but more due to the presence of the absence affecting a daughter in body mind and soul.
