Here are the instructions to pause audible memberships:

Freeze audible account. Click on the membership option and choose cancel membership. Go to audible.com > account details menu. If asked, sign into your audible account again.

Go to the account details page on the audible desktop site. Open a new tab in your web browser and access audible customer support to cancel your membership. Under the “your membership” box, click on the “cancel membership” option.
