Close the ratchet back down.

Loosen a ratchet strap. Press the release on the level and pull the ratchet handle at the same time. This is usually by the top of the ratchet. Open the ratchet lever and move the slot of the empty winding drum into the threading position for the webbing.

The release tab, also known as the release lever, will help release pressure on the strap. Pull the strap out of the ratchet mandrel. Close the ratchet handle to rearrange the assembly for the next use.
