H.m. yacht iolaire. On January 1st 1919 in the early hours of the morning HMYacht Iolaire struck rocks the Beasts of Holm near the entrance to Stornoway harbour and sank with the loss of 205 men. Additional Info Son of Richard and Urina Henley. DIXON Herbert Able Seaman J 11166 illness.

The soldiers and civilians and a few of the sailors were put on board the Sheila and some 260 all naval ratings were assigned to the Iolaire which in addition carried a crew of 23. Most of those on board were RNR ratings going home to villages around the island after years of war service.
