If the manufacturer recommends 3/16, its for a reason.

Again, 1/8 grout joint size is recommended for rectified tiles and a 3/16 grout joint for non rectified. Note that using the smallest grout possible will increase installation time. • don’t cut too many tiles at one time.
Once tile is installed you need to fill the gaps between the spaces. Rectified tiles, regardless of size, shall have a grout joint width no less than 1/8. This is the standard size of grout line for this type of tiling.
Even small variations can throw off the pattern of the tile if adjustments are not made in the grout joint. The 40” plank category ranges in width from 6.5 inches to 12 inches with lengths as long as 48 inches. Smallest size grout lines should not be less than 1/16″.
