The trimaran hull form permits the ship to carry a large capacity of weapons packages with space to land two helicopters.

Trimaran littoral combat ship. The ship is very very similar to the US. Our computing technology controls everything from driving the ship to firing its guns and it is designed to maximize automation enabling sailors to focus on their missions. The ship is built to support up to two helicopters with two hangars and a large helicopter landing pad.

It has a twin too. One is built in Wisconsin by Lockheed Martin teamed with Fincantieris Marinette Marine. Austal delivered its 12th trimaran LCS to the US Navy on June 29th.

The other with an entirely different hull design a trimaran is built by Austal USA in Mobile Alabama. The INDEPENDENCE variant LCS is an aluminum Stabilized Slender Trimaran ship and the FREEDOM variant LCS is a steel Double Chine.
