Select Set As Default.
The default font color in word 2013 is. The color defaults to yellow. Go to Home and then select the Font Dialog Box Launcher. Click the OK button when you are done.

So were going to start with a blank doc. Theres also a rainbow rectangle on the right where you can choose your preferred color. Click the Font menu button at the bottom-right corner of the Font section of the ribbon.
Go to Format Font Font. Open the template or a document based on the template whose default settings you want to change. In word 2013 I can select some text and in the ribbon Home Font click on the tool to highlight the text.
