Because these sites are more exposed snorkeling seas in Kauai tend to be more challenging than in Maui with the chance for rougher conditions like swells and sometimes strong currents.
Snorkeling maui vs kauai. Maui is pretty chill with a focus on nature and the beauty of the island. Kauai is called the Garden Isle since most of the island consists of mountains and rainforests which gives the island a lush wet climate. Some require a boat tour like Molokini Crater but some of the best spots can be accessed by land.
If youre just an average snorkeling fan and you might go out once youll be perfectly happy with some of Kauais better spots but if snorkeling is a big priority for you Maui definitely has the edge. Its unique variety of beaches with their red and black sand add a little spark of intrigue to your seaside visits. Snorkeling with sea turtles on Maui is very special.
Looks to me like youre asking how north shore Kauai snorkeling compares to just Napili Bay on Maui. Kauai is primarily an algae reef and that is what drives the ecology. Inverts and Turtles are slightly more plentiful in my opinion but you would never know the difference.
There are spots where the water is calm and you can see plenty of sea life. While both islands have good snorkeling Maui has more top-notch sites and more are easily accessible from the beach. Yes snorkeling and swimming in the ocean might be easier for young swimmers on Maui but Kauai offers even more outdoor adventures than youll find on Maui.
Kauai doesnt have bad snorkeling. Correct me if Im wrong. Maui outshines Kauai when it comes to sunshine literally.
Black Rock is a great snorkeling spot on Maui and near some of the best resorts. Go for the Big Island Manta Ray snorkel since it is unique and just go snorkel off the beaches on both Maui and Big Island. But all the Kohala beaches with snorkeling are better than Maui beaches.
