One was a single engine 19 ft.
Single engine catamaran cavitation. Both of the catamarans have a head in the console which is unusual in a center console catamaran and both self bailing which was really important to us. Raises clear of the water for sailing. Most single-engine outboards sport a propeller that turns clockwise or to the right as you look at the transom.
So a base boat increase plus the premium for the Yamahas probably looking at 70k. The handling of the 22 BaD Cat is awesome for a single engine cat and it flys and feels like driving a sportscar with no cavitation no ventilation turns on a dime and they really nailed it. No one that has seen those things can argue it.
The Montauk would be a better choice for pulling water toys for the Twin Vee will cavitate very easily as will all single engine catamarans. 2016 price will go up around 2500 and Worldcat will rig all with Yamaha 115s from what im told. Another issue with going back to a single engine was maneuverability.
Water coming through the hull tunnel is aerated and can cause cavitation of the prop. I did some testing on a 35ft sailing cat about 20 years ago with a variety of engines. Cavitation single-engine powered catamarans all seem to suffer from to various degrees.
Proper engine height is critical for a single-engine cat. Well that was my idea on the high speed catamaran. Just to clarify my Skoota is not a planing cat cruising speed is 15 knots with a single 25hp I agree that for high speeds you need twin engines one behind each hull.
I have ridden in 2 other 18 catamarans and the Twin Vee was much better in handleing the cavitation problems associated with single engine catamarans but it will still cavitate easily. Pods is a type of bow placed in the centre between the hulls to divert this aerated water away from the prop wings just increase the size of the cavitation plate and apparently reduce cavitation. Ive heard that a hydraulic jack plate which would allow the engine to be lowered in a following sea would reduce cavitation even further.
