I do recall that the red button was involved in relighting the pilot:
Relighting oven pilot light. Turn the valve to the “pilot” position. Open the drawer under the oven. If you're having a hard time using any of the ranges or the oven on your stove, it may be because of the pilot light.
I dont know why, its just one of those mysteries! Take your lighter or match and put it in the opening where the pilot light is, and press. If the reset button fails, ignite the lighter.
Wait at least 5 minutes to allow any remaining gas in. The first time it happened i had no clue what. Once you manage to get it lit, keep holding the knob for at least another minute.
At the end of the pipe is something that. Once the pilot light is lit, continue. Press and hold the reset switch for one minute and hold a flame to the pilot light at the same time.
Turn the gas to ‘pilot.’. Hold down the reset button and bring a grill lighter or long match to the pilot. Light the pilot using a long match while pushing in and holding the oven control knob.
Open the oven and expose the pilot and burner assembly by removing the cover plate and flame spreader, if there is one. Press and hold the reset button. Turn the knob on your furnace to “off.”.
