To achieve this the motor itself has to be attached at the correct height.
Pontoon motor height. The motor was too high but mounted as low as possible. A 50 HP motor on a 20 foot toon is going to want all the bite it can get. Just mount the motor full down.
Based on the previous information most 24-foot pontoon boats would do just fine with a 150HP motor. Place a variety of loads. Industry standards dictate that for short shaft engines the transom height should be 15.

Motor height on pontoon boat. How do you determine the height of an outboard motor when installing on a pontoon. Agree with wwind3 on the reason for the blowout.
Also are add-on cavitation plates useful on pontoon motors to reduce prop ventilation issues. Looks like a motor with a 25 shaft on a boattransom made for a 20 shaft. A long shaft engine requires a height of 20 and extra-long shaft engines will need a transom height of 25.
The Yamaha is a 25 shaft. My understanding is most pontoons need a 20. In fact unless you have a bunch of power say 100 hp or more mounting full down is the best setup.
