Also known as float chargers the job of a battery maintainer is to keep your cars battery in good health if it isnt being used for a long period of time. The battery is in use even when the ignition is off so it can quickly drain simply sitting in your car garage or self-storage unit. January 11 2017.
Most importantly being able to set it and forget it unlike trickle chargers means you can leave your battery connected to the tender for weeks months or even years safe in the knowledge that your vehicles power source is being looked after and will serve you well for years to come. Clearly the main advantage of battery maintainers is that they wont overcharge the vehicles battery. The result is that a battery maintainer wont overcharge the battery like a charger might which can help extend the life of the battery overall.
When I first set up my battery bank 6 years ago this was one of my first questions and Im happy to share what Ive learned. Battery Tender chargers are designed to fully charge a battery and maintain it at proper storage voltage without the damaging effects caused by trickle chargers. Charging it in your closed trunk is a little riskier but i still do it. It will keep the battery fully charged. The NOCO Battery Chargers work very differently than the old traditional battery tenders.
