Stay away from turning your wood flooring in different directions in different rooms in an attempt to create interest.
Hardwood floor installation joist direction. Wood floors do not have to run in the same direction. To be precise, the planks should be placed in a perpendicular direction to the joists. Apart from a few exceptions.
Hardwood plan direction with your home’s floorplan. As a general rule of thumb, most floors (planks) should be installed across the joists and not parallel to them. The direction chosen to run the hardwood boards or planks should be based on two items:

Once in place, the hardwood planks should be. Hardwood flooring must be installed perpendicular to the floor joists or on a diagonal for any single layer subfloor. Also note if you install hwd at a 45 then the 'run.
Is laying hardwood floors in different directions okay? Introducing plywood or chipboard will remove any doubts you may have about the spacing of your joists and will avoid the need for noggins or braces. Where floor joists are spaced 16 inches.
