Just get dot 4, or get 5.1 if you plan on doing mountain carving/racing.
Dot 4 oder dot 5.1. Dot 5.1 and 4 are interchangeable, but it's good practice to flush all the old stuff out anyway. I now have decided to try dot 5.1 but i read online where a guy put dot 5 into his brakes that used to have dot 4 and it all gummed up. Jan 1, 2009 at 11:07:
Also 5.1 is more hydroscopic than dot 4, so although initially dot 5.1 will have a higher boiling point initially, but the longer you leave it in the system the more water it'll absorption and. I use dot 5.1 because it is clear, this is another (some kind of better) dot 4. Von silikonklamotten oder schläuchen perlt das lieber ab.und mit der ersten bremsung wird das silikon das wasser wieder zurückdrücken?
As previously noted part of the dot standard is miscability. I made myself a container to catch a leak from the master cylinders. The classification was released in 2001.
I run ap600 in my track car which is a dot 4 with a high dry boiling temp (over 300c). Also sollte dort eigentlich schneller wasser drin sein. Apparently ford is also selling a super dot 4 brake fluid.
Dot 3/4/5.1 is not (dulled?) if you have an electronic brake fluid tester (will measure the amount of water) the tester will show something (on scale or led lights) with 3/4/5.1 and nothing. Looks like the minimum boiling points have been raised on super dot 4 compared to dot 4. I know not to use dot 5 but what has been the improvement with dot 5.1?
Dot 5 silicon is slippery between your fingers. Dot 5.1 is the successor of dot 4. Doesn't matter what temp the fluid can operate at, the rubber hoses will deform long before the fluid boils.
