White canvas shoes (new or very clean) patterns or designs to guide you;

Coloring shoes with sharpie. Use the sharpies to draw a design all over the canvas part of your sneakers. Put rubbing alcohol into the bowl. Take decorated shoes to a well ventilated area, preferably outside.
